Deaf Unity relies on the support of the Deaf community and hearing partners in providing our services to Deaf victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. Volunteers, interns, and donors provide the support and structure that makes our work possible. To learn more about how you can assist Deaf Unity, please check out the opportunities listed below.
Fundraising and Special Events
Attend regular meetings and assist Board and staff with event planning. Deaf Unity hosts an annual fall fundraiser and smaller events. Work with Deaf Unity Board and staff at community social educational and outreach events. Email the Board President if you are interested in helping out with fundraising and special events.
Hotline/Peer Support
Provide peer support services to Deaf victims who contact Deaf Unity through the hotline requesting help. Volunteer must have driver’s license, proof of insurance and your own transportation. Training to become a peer support volunteer is provided. Reimbursement for mileage accrued. Email the Executive Director, if you are interested.
Board Membership
Deaf Unity has a Board of Directors that has up to nine members. The Board meets at least four times a year, with executive committee meeting more frequently. We seek Deaf and hard of hearing people to serve on the Board, as well as individuals with specialized knowledge and expertise, such as knowledge of and connections to private funding opportunities, employment law, and finances. If you are interested in becoming a Board, please contact the Board President for information and an application package.
Office/Board Support
Assist staff and Board with typical offices duties including: filing, typing, copying, preparing materials for outreach, stuffing envelopes, updating email address list, and any other clerical and event projects requested by staff and Board.
